## Intro **FastAPI** wouldn't exist if not for the previous work of others. There have been many tools created before that have helped inspire its creation. I have been avoiding the creation of a new framework for several years. First I tried to solve all the features covered by **FastAPI** using many different frameworks, plug-ins, and tools.

You will see examples of this in the next chapters, about relational and NoSQL databases, security, etc. ## **FastAPI** compatibility The simplicity of the dependency injection system makes **FastAPI** compatible with: * all the relational databases * NoSQL databases * external packages * external APIs * authentication and authorization systems

## ORMs **FastAPI** works with any database and any style of library to talk to the database. A common pattern is to use an "ORM": an "object-relational mapping" library. An ORM has tools to convert ("*map*") between *objects* in code and database tables ("*relations*"). With an ORM, you normally create a class that represents a table in a SQL database, each attribute of the class represents a column, with a name and a type.
