# Using Dataclasses { #using-dataclasses }

FastAPI is built on top of **Pydantic**, and I have been showing you how to use Pydantic models to declare requests and responses.

But FastAPI also supports using [`dataclasses`](https://docs.python.org/3/library/dataclasses.html) the same way:

The above scenario is representative of most TLS set ups: the client uses certificates to validate
the identity of a server. The converse is also possible. Here we create a server that authenticates
a client and a client that authenticates a server.

- OkHttp targets the intersection of RFC correct *and* widely implemented.  Incorrect implementations that are very widely implemented e.g. a bug in Apache, Nginx, Google, Firefox should also be handled.
