# Extra Data Types { #extra-data-types }

Up to now, you have been using common data types, like:

* `int`
* `float`
* `str`
* `bool`

But you can also use more complex data types.

And you will still have the same features as seen up to now:

* Great editor support.
* Data conversion from incoming requests.
* Data conversion for response data.
* Data validation.
* Automatic annotation and documentation.

Go 1.24 changed the behavior of `go test -json` to emit build errors as JSON
instead of text.
These new JSON events are distinguished by new `Action` values,
but can still cause problems with CI systems that aren't robust to these events.
This behavior can be controlled with the `gotestjsonbuildtext` setting.
Using `gotestjsonbuildtext=1` restores the 1.23 behavior.
This setting will be removed in a future release, Go 1.28 at the earliest.

You can set a dependency override for a dependency used anywhere in your **FastAPI** application.

The original dependency could be used in a *path operation function*, a *path operation decorator* (when you don't use the return value), a `.include_router()` call, etc.

FastAPI will still be able to override it.

### Rewriting Requests

Interceptors can add, remove, or replace request headers. They can also transform the body of those requests that have one. For example, you can use an application interceptor to add request body compression if you're connecting to a webserver known to support it.

You can use any template engine you want with **FastAPI**.

A common choice is Jinja2, the same one used by Flask and other tools.

There are utilities to configure it easily that you can use directly in your **FastAPI** application (provided by Starlette).

## Install dependencies { #install-dependencies }

If you would like to contribute code to OkHttp you can do so through GitHub by
forking the repository and sending a pull request.

When submitting code, please make every effort to follow existing conventions
and style in order to keep the code as readable as possible. Please also make
sure your code compiles by running `./gradlew check`. Checkstyle failures
during compilation indicate errors in your style and can be viewed in the
`checkstyle-result.xml` file.

#### Union { #union }

You can declare that a variable can be any of **several types**, for example, an `int` or a `str`.

In Python 3.6 and above (including Python 3.10) you can use the `Union` type from `typing` and put inside the square brackets the possible types to accept.

You can use the Select API to query objects with following features:

- Objects must be in CSV, JSON, or Parquet(*) format.
- UTF-8 is the only encoding type the Select API supports.
