# Body - Fields { #body-fields }

The same way you can declare additional validation and metadata in *path operation function* parameters with `Query`, `Path` and `Body`, you can declare validation and metadata inside of Pydantic models using Pydantic's `Field`.

## Import `Field` { #import-field }

First, you have to import it:

You could use any other SQL or NoSQL database library you want (in some cases called <abbr title="Object Relational Mapper: a fancy term for a library where some classes represent SQL tables and instances represent rows in those tables">"ORMs"</abbr>), FastAPI doesn't force you to use anything. 😎

As SQLModel is based on SQLAlchemy, you can easily use **any database supported** by SQLAlchemy (which makes them also supported by SQLModel), like:

You could still use most of the features in **FastAPI** with the knowledge from the main [Tutorial - User Guide](../tutorial/index.md).

Let's say that you want to declare the query parameter `q` as a required `str`.

And you don't need to declare anything else for that parameter, so you don't really need to use `Query`.

But you still need to use `Path` for the `item_id` path parameter. And you don't want to use `Annotated` for some reason.
