# RDMA (SMB Direct) Feature - Detailed Design Document

SMB Direct enables high-performance data transfer using Remote Direct Memory Access (RDMA) technology. This provides ultra-low latency and high bandwidth data transfer by bypassing the traditional TCP/IP stack and allowing direct memory-to-memory transfers between client and server.

# Directory Leasing Feature - Detailed Design Document

## 1. Overview

Directory leasing extends the SMB3 lease concept to directories, enabling client-side caching of directory metadata and change notifications. This significantly improves performance for applications that frequently enumerate directories or monitor directory changes.

# SMB3 Lease Feature - Detailed Design Document

## 1. Overview

SMB3 leases provide a client caching mechanism that replaces the traditional oplock mechanism. Leases enable better performance through client-side caching while maintaining cache coherency across multiple clients.

If the DNS SRV record is at an entirely different place, say `_ldapsrv._tcpish.myldapserver.com`, then set `srv_record_name` to the special value `on` and set `server_addr=_ldapsrv._tcpish.myldapserver.com`.

When using this feature, do not specify a port in the `server_addr` as the port is picked up automatically from the SRV record.

With the default (empty) value for `srv_record_name`, MinIO **will not** perform any SRV record request.

## Type Hints with Metadata Annotations { #type-hints-with-metadata-annotations }

Python also has a feature that allows putting **additional <abbr title="Data about the data, in this case, information about the type, e.g. a description.">metadata</abbr>** in these type hints using `Annotated`.
