## Version 5.0.0-alpha.15 _2025-05-28_ **This release introduces separate JVM and Android artifacts.** Until now, we've distributed OkHttp as a JVM library that _detects_ Android capabilities at runtime, but that doesn't offer Android-specific APIs. With this release we're starting to publish OkHttp as an AAR for Android users in addition to our existing JAR for JVM users.

</div> This means that it will **always have a value**, it's just that sometimes the value could be `None` (or `null` in JSON). That means that, clients using your API don't have to check if the value exists or not, they can **assume the field will always be there**, but just that in some cases it will have the default value of `None`.

There are many situations in which you need to notify an error to a client that is using your API. This client could be a browser with a frontend, a code from someone else, an IoT device, etc. You could need to tell the client that: * The client doesn't have enough privileges for that operation. * The client doesn't have access to that resource. * The item the client was trying to access doesn't exist. * etc.
