**FastAPI** gives you the following:

It won't do any data conversion with Pydantic models, it won't convert the contents to any type, etc.

This gives you a lot of **flexibility**. You can return any data type, override any data declaration or validation, etc.

It also gives you a lot of **responsibility**. You have to make sure that the data you return is correct, in the correct format, that it can be serialized, etc.

I'll tell you a bit more about these **concepts** here, and that would hopefully give you the **intuition** you would need to decide how to deploy your API in very different environments, possibly even in **future** ones that don't exist yet.

By considering these concepts, you will be able to **evaluate and design** the best way to deploy **your own APIs**.

In the next chapters, I'll give you more **concrete recipes** to deploy FastAPI applications.

The `directory="static"` refers to the name of the directory that contains your static files.

The `name="static"` gives it a name that can be used internally by **FastAPI**.

All these parameters can be different than "`static`", adjust them with the needs and specific details of your own application.
