There are some cases where you might need to convert a data type (like a Pydantic model) to something compatible with JSON (like a `dict`, `list`, etc).

For example, if you need to store it in a database.

For that, **FastAPI** provides a `jsonable_encoder()` function.

# Global Dependencies { #global-dependencies }

For some types of applications you might want to add dependencies to the whole application.

Similar to the way you can [add `dependencies` to the *path operation decorators*](dependencies-in-path-operation-decorators.md){.internal-link target=_blank}, you can add them to the `FastAPI` application.

In that case, they will be applied to all the *path operations* in the application:

   * listeners for future n may complete before some for future n-1.) However, it is possible, if
   * one input completes with result X and another later with result Y, for Y to come before X in
   * the output future list. (Such races are impossible to solve without global synchronization of
   * all future completions. And they should have little practical impact.)
