## Program and Process { #program-and-process }

We will talk a lot about the running "**process**", so it's useful to have clarity about what it means, and what's the difference with the word "**program**".

### What is a Program { #what-is-a-program }

The word **program** is commonly used to describe many things:

* The **code** that you write, the **Python files**.

The parameter `security_scopes` will be of type `SecurityScopes`.

It will have a property `scopes` with a list containing all the scopes required by itself and all the dependencies that use this as a sub-dependency. That means, all the "dependants"... this might sound confusing, it is explained again later below.

The `root_path` is used to handle these specific cases.

And it's also used internally when mounting sub-applications.

Having a proxy with a stripped path prefix, in this case, means that you could declare a path at `/app` in your code, but then, you add a layer on top (the proxy) that would put your **FastAPI** application under a path like `/api/v1`.

### How the importing works { #how-the-importing-works }

The section:

```

means:

* Starting in the same package that this module (the file `app/main.py`) lives in (the directory `app/`)...
* look for the subpackage `routers` (the directory at `app/routers/`)...
