## Platform architecture

Gradle is arranged into several coarse-grained components called "platforms".
Each platform provides support for some kind of automation, such as building JVM software or building Gradle plugins.
Most platforms typically build on the features of other platforms.

- **Flexibility and Control:** Java serialization offers limited control over the serialization process, such as excluding certain fields, customizing naming conventions, and handling complex data structures more gracefully.

- **Security:** Java serialization poses security risks, especially related to deserialization vulnerabilities.

## Context

The Gradle core platform provides many services to the Gradle platforms and builds logic. One such group of services allows logic to interact with the build user, to provide diagnostics, progress information, prompt for questions, and so on. Currently, these services are part of the core platform runtime architecture module.

This is a general-purpose automation platform which takes care of the efficient definition and execution of work, such as tasks.
This platform is agnostic to what exactly the purpose of the work is.
It might be creating an application, setting up development environments, orchestrating deployments, running simulations, etc.
