### Relationship between the CLI and controller

The CLI and controller share the same API and codebase for generating manifests from the API. You can think of the
controller as the CLI command `istioctl install` running in a loop in a pod in the cluster and using the config
from the in-cluster IstioOperator custom resource (CR).
There are two major differences:

    - it also sets up a UDS socket for istio-cni to send logs to this container.
    - based on config, it may run the 'repair' controller that detects pods where istio setup fails and restarts them, or created in corner cases.
    - if ambient is enabled, also runs an ambient controller, watching Pod, Namespace

    - CNI plugin executable copied to `/opt/cni/bin`
    - currently implemented for k8s only

the potential to leak sensitive information such as "Authorization" or "Cookie" headers and the
contents of request and response bodies. This data should only be logged in a controlled way or in
a non-production environment.

You can redact headers that may contain sensitive information by calling `redactHeader()`.

## Enabling Parquet Format

Parquet is DISABLED by default since hostile crafted input can easily crash the server.

If you are in a controlled environment where it is safe to assume no hostile content can be uploaded to your cluster you can safely enable Parquet.
To enable Parquet set the environment variable `MINIO_API_SELECT_PARQUET=on`.
