This is because FastAPI uses this `root_path` to create the default `server` in OpenAPI with the URL provided by `root_path`.

Routes are declared in a single place, using functions declared in other places (instead of using decorators that can be placed right on top of the function that handles the endpoint). The `@app.get("/")` tells **FastAPI** that the function right below is in charge of handling requests that go to:

* the path `/`
