Over the last year, SIG Storage has been focused on adding support for the Container Storage Interface (CSI) to Kubernetes. The specification recently moved to 1.0, and on the heels of this achievement, Kubernetes v1.13 moves CSI support for PersistentVolumes to GA. With CSI the Kubernetes volume layer becomes truly extensible, allowing third party storage developers to write drivers making their storage systems available in Kubernetes without having to touch the core code.
