## Introduction

[Istio](https://istio.io/latest/docs/concepts/what-is-istio/) is an open platform for providing a uniform way to [integrate
microservices](https://istio.io/latest/docs/examples/microservices-istio/), manage [traffic flow](https://istio.io/latest/docs/concepts/traffic-management/) across microservices, enforce policies
and aggregate telemetry data. Istio's control plane provides an abstraction

This component accomplishes that in the following ways:

1. By installing a separate, very basic "CNI plugin" binary onto the node to forward low-level pod lifecycle events (CmdAdd/CmdDel/etc) from whatever node-level CNI subsystem is in use to this node agent for processing via socket.
1. By running as a node-level daemonset that:

ARGS:
bitrotscan     (on|off)    perform bitrot scan on drives when checking objects during scanner
max_sleep      (duration)  maximum sleep duration between objects to slow down heal operation. eg. 2s
max_io         (int)       maximum IO requests allowed between objects to slow down heal operation. eg. 3
drive_workers  (int)       the number of workers per drive to heal a new disk replacement.

It includes built in muxing of concurrent requests as well as congestion handling for streams.

Requests can be "Single Payload" or "Streamed".

Use the MinIO Grid for:

* Small, frequent requests with low latency requirements.
* Long-running requests with small/medium payloads.

Do *not* use the MinIO Grid for:

* Large payloads.

Only a single connection is ever made between two servers.
