# Background Tasks - `BackgroundTasks`

You can declare a parameter in a *path operation function* or dependency function with the type `BackgroundTasks`, and then you can use it to schedule the execution of background tasks after the response is sent.

You can import it directly from `fastapi`:

## Add the background task { #add-the-background-task }

Inside of your *path operation function*, pass your task function to the *background tasks* object with the method `.add_task()`:

`.add_task()` receives as arguments:

* A task function to be run in the background (`write_notification`).
