These rules are checked dynamically at runtime. The checking is controlled by the cgocheck setting of the GODEBUG environment variable. The default setting is GODEBUG=cgocheck=1, which implements reasonably cheap dynamic checks. These checks may be disabled entirely using GODEBUG=cgocheck=0. Complete checking of pointer handling, at some cost in run time, is available by setting GOEXPERIMENT=cgocheck2 at build time.

There is no plan to remove these settings. ### Go 1.6 Go 1.6 introduced transparent support for HTTP/2, controlled by the [`http2client`, `http2server`, and `http2debug` settings](/pkg/net/http/#hdr-HTTP_2). There is no plan to remove these settings. ### Go 1.5 Go 1.5 introduced a pure Go DNS resolver, controlled by the [`netdns` setting](/pkg/net/#hdr-Name_Resolution).

These new behaviors are only enabled when the main Go program is in a module with a `go.mod` `go` line using Go 1.23.0 or later. When Go 1.23 builds older programs, the old behaviors remain in effect. The new [GODEBUG setting](/doc/godebug) [`asynctimerchan=1`](/pkg/time/#NewTimer) can be used to revert back to asynchronous channel behaviors

which was a source of many inconsistencies and bugs. This behavior is controlled by the `winsymlink` setting. For Go 1.23, it defaults to `winsymlink=1`. Previous versions default to `winsymlink=0`. On Windows, [EvalSymlinks] no longer tries to normalize volumes to drive letters, which was not always even possible. This behavior is controlled by the `winreadlinkvolume` setting. For Go 1.23, it defaults to `winreadlinkvolume=1`.
