# Run a Server Manually

## Use the `fastapi run` Command

In short, use `fastapi run` to serve your FastAPI application:

It will serve the documentation on `http://127.0.0.1:8008`.

That way, you can edit the documentation/source files and see the changes live.

    Alternatively, you can perform the same steps that scripts does manually.

    Go into the language directory, for the main docs in English it's at `docs/en/`:

    ```console
    $ cd docs/en/
    ```

    Then run `mkdocs` in that directory:

### In a Remote Server

When you set up a remote server (a cloud server, a virtual machine, etc.) the simplest thing you can do is to use `fastapi run`, Uvicorn (or similar) manually, the same way you do when developing locally.

And it will work and will be useful **during development**.

But if your connection to the server is lost, the **running process** will probably die.
