src/README.vendor
a "vendor/" prefix also maintains the invariant that standard library packages begin with a dotless path element. The module requirements of std and cmd do not influence version selection in other modules. They are only considered when running module commands like 'go get' and 'go mod vendor' from a directory in GOROOT/src. Maintaining vendor directories ==============================

doc/godebug.md
its value is derived from three sources: the defaults for the Go toolchain used to build the program, amended to match the Go version listed in `go.mod`, and then overridden by explicit `//go:debug` lines in the program. The [GODEBUG History](#history) gives the exact defaults for each Go toolchain version. For example, Go 1.21 introduces the `panicnil` setting, controlling whether `panic(nil)` is allowed;

api/README
Files in this directory are data for Go's API checker ("go tool api", in src/cmd/api). Each file is a list of API features, one per line. go1.txt (and similarly named files) are frozen once a version has been shipped. Each file adds new lines but does not remove any. except.txt lists features that may disappear without breaking true compatibility. Starting with go1.19.txt, each API feature line must end in "#nnnnn"

doc/next/3-tools.md
The `go vet` subcommand now includes the [stdversion](https://beta.pkg.go.dev/golang.org/x/tools/go/analysis/passes/stdversion) analyzer, which flags references to symbols that are too new for the version of Go in effect in the referring file. (The effective version is determined by the `go` directive in the file's enclosing `go.mod` file, and by any [`//go:build` constraints](https://pkg.go.dev/cmd/go#hdr-Build_constraints) in the file.)
